A new approach to working and writing in triads
Guided by simple objectives, this Chapter presents
triad work in a clear and effective way.
Objectives
Immediate Results
To have the exercises of the very first class produce satisfying results. To have
the students enjoy performing and criticizing their work as a form of correction.
Solid Foundation
To give directives which are precise, logical, free of exceptions, and easy to remember.
To eliminate all ambiguity in domains of doubling and voice-leading. To furnish pertinent
and complete answers to all questions concerning these directives, including those
concerning current usage in the folkloric, popular, or classical repertory.
Musicality
To achieve results of the highest possible musical standards, even at the beginning
when the means are still quite limited. To meet the exigencies of rhythm, harmony,
and melodic lines (especially in the soprano voice).
Fun
Who knows, with a little time, and a lot of feedback from students, to create a process
which is agreeable, not only to the students themselves, but to their teachers as
well.
