Applications / Pedagogy / Triad Harmony / Circle

Definition

The circle is basically an uninterrupted succession of Tetrads
     progressing by descending fifth (I+7-IV+7-VII7-III7-VI7-II7-V7-I).
As long as there are only Real Triads, always limited to root position,
the process will be quite similar to what was seen inClass 6withVI-II-V-I,
which was already the second half of the complete circle.
However, when Real Triads alternate with deceptive triads,
a true progression from a Real Triad to a deceptive triad will be by descending third,
as was seen inClass 9withII-viiand later withV-iii.

With only Real Triads

All Triad progressions will be by descending fifth.
VLL 4 will consist of the Fundamental Bass,
the Root of each Real Triad
corresponding to the Root of each basic Tetrad.
VLLs 1, 2, 3 will be constantly ascending if the Triads are complete,
but descending if diads are employed.
It will be interesting to place diads in different positions,
without having two in a row, which is not possible,
                    producing consecutive octaves,
          and observe the resulting VLLs.

With added deceptive triads

Triad progressions from Real Triad to deceptive triad will be by descending third,
and those between deceptive triad and Real Triad will be by ascending second,
               imposed by the caving in,
those between two Real Triads remaining by descending fifth,
and those between two deceptive triads not being possible in a circle,
                    only in a swing.
It will be interesting to place deceptive triads in different positions,
without having two in a row,
          and observe the resulting VLLs.
