History
The songTwinkle, Twinklelent itself to several Counter Melodies,
     of which this seemed the most successful,
          both for the music and for the words,
               placed on a larger level,Level +1, possiblyLevel +2.
     A father and his child both refer to the same scene,
          but in a completely different, complementary manner.

Comparison Of The Two Melodies

Twinkle, Twinkle - - - Whispers Of The Night

General
Form=ABA
Level 0for eachAandB=0 + 2- - -Level +1for eachAandB=0 + 4
2/4 Bar-lines placed at itsLevel 0- - - 2/4 Bar-lines placed at itsLevel -1
1 bar per cell - - - 2 bars per cell
4 bars (4 cells) in eachAandB- - - 4 bars (2 cells) in eachAandB
12 bars in all with theD.C.

2 Levels
As inExample 3, 2 simultaneous levels merit an explanation.
     Melody 1 starts first, on a pick-up Beat 2 at itsLevel 0,
          while Melody 2 starts later. on Beat 1 of the next (full) bar (Bar 1) at itsLevel -1.
     This is what allows them to cadence together at the end of eachAand of eachB.

MeloHarmony
The two melodies evidently have the same harmonies, chords, "changes"
M5664 3333 5664
F F Bb6F Bb6F/C C7F, F6C7F6C F6C7F6C, F F Bb6F Bb6F/C C7F

2 Levels Again
Some true, proprietor chords of Melody 1 becometenant chordsof Melody 2,
          including all the COUNTER-DOMINANT Bb6chords,
     producing, at its larger level, the patternM54 33 54.

MeloRhythm
In theAs, twoEntitiesfor Melody 1 - - - In the firstA, oneEntityfor Melody 2.
K1F= K1M twice - - -K2F= K1Monce
In theB, twoEntitiesin Melody 1 - - - TheBjoins the nextAin Melody 2.
K1F= K1M twice - - -K2F= K1F-once
(forcode).

The MeloRhythm of these two melodies is very different and complementary,
     with repeated, short, identical entities in Melody 1
          but with a long entityAand an extra long entityBAin Melody 2.
In the completeABA, there are 6 entities in Melody 1 but only 2 entities in Melody 2.

MeloLines
The MeloLines here are essentially parallel thirds
C, Bb, A, G with A, G, F, E, in Bars 2-3 (10-11)
G, C, Bb, A with Bb, A, G, F, in Bars 6-7.
Only in Bars 1-2 (9-10) do we find the2-1(D-C),3-2(G-A) combination, and
only in Bar 5 do we find the3-2(Bb-A),2-1(E-F) combination.
(forcode),
0 / 3 2 / 1 3 / 2 1 / 1 , 0 / 3 2 / 1 0 / 3 2 / 1 D.C. - - - (0)/ 0 3 / 2 0 / 3 2 / 1, (0)/ 2 1 / 3 2 / 1 3 / 2 D.C.-->

Only 2 orbits have been chosen for each bar,
     and whatever precedesOrbit 2is consideredOrbit 3.
The same number and size of Entities as in the MeloRhythm,
     with 6 entities in Melody 1 (2-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 1-1)
          and only 2 entities in Melody 2 (2-1, 2-1) to "close" at the end of eachA(Bars 4 and 12).
The combination of 3-2 with 2-1 occurs at Bars 1-2 (9-10), in Bar 3 (11) in Bar 5 and in Bars 7-8.-->

Analysis Of Melody 2

General
Everything satisfactory in itsABAform.

Melo-rhythm
Everything satisfactory in itsK2F= K1M K2F= K1F- K2F= K1Mshape.

Melo-harmony
Everything satisfactory in itsM54 33 54(F / F C7/ F, F6C7F6C, F / F C7/ F) chord pattern.

Melo-lines
Everything satisfactory in itsLanger Hingeat the end of theB,
     which also affects the Melo-harmony and the Melo-rhythm.

General Review of Entities
All the entities are the same length,
     2 entities in the Melo-rhythm, in the Melo-lines, and in the Melo-harmony.

The Rainbow Shift
Thisshift of levelswas first noticed inOver The Rainbow.
     The symmetry existing between
          the Beat of Cell 1 (Bar 2) and the Off-Beat of Cell 2 (Bar 3)
               tends to unify them into the Off-Beat of a larger level,
                    producing a lofty, grandiose feeling.
          The same applies to Bars 10 and 11 and to Bars 6 and 7.
