          If you will marry me.

      The girl- Verse 1
          I’ll never accept your paper of pins,
          That’s not the way my love begins;
          I’ll never accept your paper of pins,
          And I won’t marry you.

     Verse 2
          I’ll offer to you a nice easy chair,
          To comb your golden hair;
          I’ll offer to you a nice easy chair,
          If you will marry me.

     Verse 2
          I’ll never accept your coach and six,
          That’s not the way my love begins;
          I’ll never accept your coach and six,
          And I won’t marry you.

     Verse 3
          I ’ll offer to you a fine dress of red,
          Stiched all around with golden thread;
          I ’ll offer to you a fine dress of red,
          If you will marry me.

     Verse 3
          I’ll never accept your fine dress of red,
          Stiched all around with golden thread;
          I’ll never accept your fine dress of red,
          And I won’t marry you.

     Verse 4
          I ’ll offer to you the key to my heart,
          That we may love and never part
          I ’ll offer to you the key to my heart,
          If you will marry me.

     Verse 4
          I’ll never accept the key to your heart,
          That we may love and never part;
          I’ll never accept the key to your heart,
          And I won’t marry you.

     Verse 5
          I ’ll offer to you the key to my chest,
          With all the gold that you request;
          I ’ll offer to you the key to my chest,
          If you will marry me.

     Verse 5
          I’ll gladly accept the key to your chest,
          With all the gold that I request;
          I’ll gladly accept the key to your chest,
          And I will marry you.

     Verse 6
          Oh, coffee you love, and also love tea,
          And you love gold, but don’t love me;
          Oh, coffee you love, and also love tea,
          If you will marry me.

     Verse 6
          I’d rather be a lonely old maid,
          Take my stool and sit in the shade;
          I’d rather be a lonely old maid,
          And I won’t marry you.

Performance

Routine
This song is traditionally sung in 2 quite different versions -
     !. A rather adult, disillusioned, negative version, with the verses given above,
          in which the rapacious Girl turns the Boy off,
          and they agree to disagree in a "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" ending.
     2. A Disney / happy ending, in which the Girl accepts the Boy's offer, using
          Verses 1-3, for both the Boy and the Girl, then
          Verse 4 for the Boy, and a modified version of Verse 5 for the Girl :
               I’ll gladly accept the key to your heart,
               That we may love and never part;
               I’ll gladly accept the key to your heart,
               And I will marry you.
