Specifics
Form AAAA BBAA BBAA,
a ternary form at the large level, with a strong cadence at the end of the AAAA and of the second BBAA. Chord Pattern M57-24, an extension of pattern M7-4, with the S2 in the same direction as the S1. The melody chosen will be the Fare Thee Well version of Polly Wolly Doodle, with a CS quite similar to that of the original, in Class 5.
The flowing nature of this subject, with its long notes on the Beat, and the similarity of the first X with the Subject, with the same motif in the opposite direction, give this fugue a particularly choral feeling.
Choral Disposition Of The Fugue Lines

NOTE the antiphony at the beginning of the X with the 3 notes placed later, in the middle of the bar rather than as a pick-up. For the AAAA and the second BBAA : Fugue line 4, with its Orbits 1-1, belongs in the Soprano, placing the corresponding Fugue line 2 with its Orbits 2-1 in the Tenor, Fugue line 1 with the XX in the Bass, and Fugue line 3 in the Alto.
The Divertimenti
Both Divertimenti use the Subject as motif - the first is in 2 voices, Alto and Tenor, with Voice-leading C, and the second is in 3 voices, Bass, Soprano, and Tenor, with Voice-leading A. See the Complete Fugue, below.
The Complete Fugue
Fare Thee Well

NOTE these "Choral" elements : the end of the S and the CS in parallel thirds Orbit lines 1-1 and 3-2; the first X as an inversion of the S.
